Of all the genres in dance music, breaks is the one currently experiencing a flood of creativity. Artists such as Meat Katie, Lee Coombs and the Plump DJs are all producing quality individual work and mix compilations, while at the forefront is DJ Hyper.

He's already the author of some fine Y3K and Bedrock Breaks anthologies, not to mention collaborations with Paul Van Dyk and some high profile remixes - he's now in demand from Pink and the Sugababes amongst others.

Big beats are evident from the off, with the old school touches applied to Mobilegazer's My House, before the slap bass of Shock Proof and the strobe-like breaks of General MIDI's We've Been Waiting up the stakes.

Hyper doesn't miss the opportunity to air some of his own work, a euphoric mix of DJ Moguai's Get On and brooding track Outsider two of the many highlights of the first disc.

Lee Coombs turns in a jumping remix of the Plump DJs' Pray For You, while Planet Funk's anarchic Who Said gets a welcome inclusion in remix form. And if it's big bass you're after, look no further than the Junkie XL remix of Infusion's Legacy, with a suitably large breakdown to match. It's peak time dancefloor music from here on in, closing with a raggafied General Midi cut and Santos' biting take on Soul Of Man.

The second CD opens in a more relaxed, spaced out frame of mind. DJ Fly Wheel's Weatherman suggests a relatively introverted approach, but that is soon dispelled as the bass starts to take control once more. Vocal tracks are more in evidence here - George Clinton's neo-goth vocal is brilliantly moody in Marscruiser'strack, the "are you ready for today" hook an instant winner. Less appealing is the inclusion of the Sugababes' In The Middle, which to my mind doesn't fit in greatly with the rest of the mix.

Chable & Bonnici's Body Rok has an absolutely storming bass riff guaranteed to rock any joint, and the rock parallel continues with Attack Force's Gourilla, with a bass that goes straight for the jugular.

Wired is an up-for-it, punchy selection of breaks that does credit to the invention currently being shown in the genre, and it also provides a damn good party soundtrack to lose yourself in.
