Russian soprano Anna Netrebko is unwell and therefore unable to perform the role of Donna Anna on the opening night of Don Giovanni on Monday 11 June.
She has been suffering from an infection for several weeks and has not sufficiently recovered to sing the performance on 11 June. The role of Donna Anna will be sung by Jette Parker Young Artist Marina Poplavskaya on the opening night in addition to the performance she was scheduled to sing on 8 July.
Russian soprano Marina Poplavskaya made her Covent Garden debut in April 2006 singing Third Norn (Götterdämmerung) and recently sang the title role in La Juive in concert for The Royal Opera at the Barbican. She leaves the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in July 2007 and returns to The Royal Opera next Season to sing Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) and Elisabetta di Valois (Don Carlo).
The rest of the cast of Don Giovanni remains unchanged for the opening night with Erwin Schrott as Don Giovanni, Kyle Ketelsen as Leporello, Reinhard Hagen as Commendatore, Ana Maria Martinez as Donna Elvira, Michael Schade as Don Ottavio, Sarah Fox as Zerlina and Matthew Rose as Masetto. Ivor Bolton conducts.
