Royal Opera Cast Change

The Royal Opera has announced a change of cast for the run of Don Giovanni at the end of the season in June. Jonathan Lemalu has withdrawn from the role of Leporello and American bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen will replace him in all performances.

Kyle Ketelsen has sung the role of Leporello on numerous occasions including for Glimmerglass Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Kentucky Opera, Opera Pacific, Madison Opera and he will also sing the role for Los Angeles Opera in November 2007. He has previously sung the role of Don Giovanni for Minnesota Opera (2006).

He made his Royal Opera debut in 2004 as Speaker of the Temple (Die Zauberflöte) and returned the following Season to sing Henrik (Maskerade) and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro). He is currently singing the role of Zoroastro (Orlando) at the Royal Opera House.

The rest of the cast remains unchanged: Erwin Schrott as Don Giovanni, Anna Netrebko as Donna Anna (Marina Poplavskaya sings the role on 8 July), Ana Maria Martinez as Donna Elvira, Michael Schade as Don Ottavio (Robert Murray sings the role on 20, 23 June and 4 July), Reinhard Hagen as the Commendatore (Robert Lloyd sings the role on 4 and 8 July), Matthew Rose as Masetto and Sarah Fox as Zerlina.

Ivor Bolton conducts all performances except 4 and 8 July when David Syrus will conduct.
