The Boy Least Likely To have done various low-key gigs during the year, albeit in offbeat venues and augmented by five friends in their live settings. Almost entirely through word of mouth they built a loyal following.
Then their agent sent the CD to James Blunt's management, who were selecting bands to join the Back To Bedlam star's UK autumn tour. Out of 150 bands, TBLLT were picked.
Before very much longer, they were nominated in Smash Hits' Newcomer category and ran Kubb close for the prize, finishing runner-up. Not bad for a band with a self-released debut and no major label backing.
Quite apart from all that, their music has titles like Warm Panda Cola, the first video (for the single Be Gentle With Me) will feature custom-made puppets, they use a glockenspiel as a lead instrument (the band, not the puppets) and their artwork includes bunny-flumpy-things dancing with balloons on strings. What more could you possibly want?
