Teen Dream was released almost a year ago, but its shimmering tones seared into memory immediately and have stayed ever since. Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally had, over the course of their previous two works, honed their blissed-out atmospherics and made sure their third album would be something to watch out for. And right from the off it was clear that Teen Dream was the sound of a band raising its game.

Tiny showcase gigs added to the critical buzz and the duo’s burgeoning fanbase amongst their fellow musicians. The silky Silver Soul, marrying Legrand’s plea “Please help me forget” with Scally’s wailing guitar, is as sublime as songs get. Not long after comes Walk In The Park, a dreamy, unhurried wander through the sun-glinting outdoors, sometimes shaded by trees, at others emerging into our star’s fullest shine. It’s glorious.

For some the album didn’t vary its pace enough, or go anywhere. Rightly so. It’s as immersive an experience as music can provide; soulful, sexy, unmissable.

What we said: “Teen Dream is no mean achievement; its song structures are at times jaw-droppingly intricate. An incredibly rewarding listen.”
