Chicken Run - The Great Escape with chickens.
Sounds like a promising premise. Well, wait till you
see it. Because this beautifully crafted gem of a film
is currently one of the best films released this year,
and is certainly one of the all-time greats in the
animation field.
The technical wizardry with the plasticine models is
second to none, with its accuracy and facial
expressions wholly believable and realistic.
The voices, which include Mel Gibson and Jane
Horrocks, are perfectly 'cast'.
Top this up with a
fabulous musical score by Harry Gregson-Williams (who
previously worked on The Rock, Armageddon, and the
animated The Prince of Egypt) and John Powell, and you
have the ingredients of a perfect family (and adult)
film.
But what distinguishes Chicken Run from other
animated (even Disney) films is the witty and
intelligent humour, created with facial expressions
and situations rather than the normal slapstick
humour.
Verdict: spit-roastingly wonderful!
