Laura Benn

Born in the delightful Stoke on Trent, Laura found that music was the only means of escape from an early age. Proclaiming that bands such as Radiohead and Joy Division got her through the dark days, it's not surprising that now she's slightly older and wiser, she has made the natural progression to favouring Interpol and Bloc Party whilst living in Sheffield. Anything with a slightly edgy guitar or tinge of sadness goes down well.

Since the age of 15 she has been writing for various publications, ranging from the Crewe Chronicle, to local music magazines, to the NME. She's currently looking forward to a placement at Glamour Magazine in London, a chance to swap reviewing gigs and being a student to filing, making cups of tea and possibly the odd write up about the latest nail polish colour. She also hopes to write children's books and live in Sheffield for as long as possible.

As well as writing, she has also found time to work in several bars, a donut factory and the famous Crucible theatre in Sheffield. Amidst the celebrity darlings in the drama field she found herself pondering a career in drama, but two minutes later decided that she'd still rather just write about it.

Laura has just graduated from Sheffield Uni with a degree in English and Sociology, and hopes to balance part time English teaching with freelance writing.
