There aren't too many French Garage bands that have made the leap internationally - at least, none that immediately spring to mind. 13th Hole might just set the record straight with Bus Stop.
One part noise band, one part indie pop, 13th Hole mix it up perfectly. Wobbly guitar lines weave in and out of heavy set bass; it's all fuzzed up and filled with hooks. Meanwhile, the chorus is saccharine sweet and sharp like a Halloween toffee apple laced with razor blades. Comparisons have been made to likes of Sonic Youth in the past, but in reality Sonic Youth were never as poppy as this, and 13th Hole, on the basis of this single at least, would seem unlikely come up with anything as groundbreaking as Daydream Nation.
B-side 'eedy has some wonderfully raw vocals from Italian vocalist Isa, and is once again stripped back, barely produced Garage fare. Still, it fizzes away, threatening to turn nasty before reminding us all what a great band Elastica used to be and disappearing in a cloud of dry ice.
