It's been 10 years since Tupac Amaru Shakur was shot dead in Las Vegas, although conspiracy stories are fuelled by the sheer volume of his posthumous releases. Famously, and somewhat conveniently Pac stockpiled recordings and Pac's Life is based around the original recording of This Life I Lead.
Ashanti's melodic voice takes the edge of Tupac's gritty and typically angst ridden lyrics, and the funky R&B beat courtesy of L T Hutton symbolises that the 10th anniversary of his murder is an opportunity to celebrate his life rather than question his death.
Pac's Life is a radio-friendly ditty, but it's questionable whether he'd be happy listening to this in Heaven's ghetto (or his house in Rio), it hardly matches up with the thug life he lived and expressed in his music. Maybe that's the point, and regardless of the politics behind it it's as easy listening R&B as you're going to get.
