A Girl Called Eddy is really a girl called Erin Moran, and on this evidence she could well be a girl called the new Dusty Springfield or Karen Carpenter. No mean copy though, for Somebody Hurt You is a self-penned tune of such aching suburban loss and longing as to share bedsit-space with EBTG's Missing and Dusty's I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore.

Incorporating Bacharach-like heartbreak changes, Somebody Hurt You is (thankfully) delivered straight and committed, not content to be a mere exercise in cosy period reconstruction. Pulp's Richard Hawley produced, and succeeds in Spectorizing Eddy's voice to such echoey splendour that the only sensible reaction to this record's charms is complete submission.

If you have a morbid dislike of perfectly crafted adult pop it's probably best you steer clear. If you feel otherwise, it's worth picking this single up, as you may have never heard a girl like this before…
