It had to happen. With everyone from Morrissey to Coldplay lining up to idolise the Peter Pan of Pop, Morten Harket, and his Norwegian epic pop making A-Ha buddies, along came the inevitable backlash.
Various hacks complained that A-Ha were being praised well beyond their station. Their music didn't merit such plaudits, it was said. Unfortunately, Analogue plays to such naysayers. Harket's voice is as note-perfect as ever, and the song isn't bad - but as a single it just doesn't hold attention.
Admittedly, with a back catalogue that includes Take On Me, The Sun Always Shines On TV and Cry Wolf to name but three memorable anthems, A-Ha were always going to have to work hard to better themselves. They tried hard with the last - patchy and too long - record Lifelines, but by comparison Analogue only suffers.
