The third single from Edinburgh five-piece Aberfeldy has been getting considerable advance play on Mark Radcliffe's Radio 2 show. You can tell why he likes it; this bright slice of country-tinged pop exudes warmth and good humour, it's simply a really likable song.
"Love is a verb and a noun as well, you'll find it in the dictionary under L." Not the most profound lyrics around but Alberfeldy somehow successfully blends the gloss of bubblegum pop with gentle, bittersweet harmonies and a catchy acoustic sound, much as they did on previous track Heliopolis By Night, a favourite of the NME.
Released on Valentine's Day, this is a song about the L word towards which even the most cynical will be able to warm. And it wins extra points for having the cutest cartoon Eskimo on the cover as well.
