With Morrissey on sale again, perhaps it's only right that someone should even think of releasing a song called Vegetarian Resturant. Composer Riley Briggs is no doubt too young to be one of the legions of temporary veggies who returned to the bacon breakfast as quickly as Mozzer and Marr dumped Joyce and Rourke, but blimey, this record is so New Man its as if Oasis never 'appened!
Or it is at one sitting. Aberfeldy happens to be the name of a Scottish coastal town (that they forgot to burn down), and its the Smiths-loving Belle & Sebastian that these Caledonian cousins have taken their cue from. Harmonies that are fit to be called gorgeous hide bittersweet thorns that take root and scratch away until you submit to the vintage songcraft.
The sound of Aberfeldy may a little too similar to Stuart Murdoch's lot for devotees, but Vegetarian Resturant and What You Do may help you get over the fact that they haven't come up with a really decent record since The Boy With The Arab Strap. Its time to move on.
