Acoustic Ladyland - Salt Water

buy music
Ahead of their third album Skinny Grin, sarf London jazzmeisters Acoustic Ladyland offer up Salt Water, a taster in two versions, mixed by Scott Walker and band bassist Seb (also of Polar Bear and just about a million other side projects) Rochford.

Moving from jazz home Babel to V2 doesn't seem to have done them any harm nor forced them down a more commercial route. There's toonin' brass a plenty, screechy jazz noisy bits for the sake of it (and because jazz fans like that sort of thing), competing instruments, and slightly more deranged note battles on the Scott Walker version than on Rochford's more paranoid (than Scott Walker??) take.

It's bonkers of course, but doesn't it just make you want to shake those hips and boogie? In a better world it wouldn't be long before Salt Water was finding its way to soundtracking the next Renault Clio ad - the screechy bit in the middle is tailor made when the shiny new car gets keyed.
