So Brighton's Actress Hands have been busy lately, grinding it out on tours with The Walkmen, British Sea Power, Le Reno Amps, Dinosaur Jr, The Pipettes and Electric Soft Parade, and in a single release week rich in pure pop thrills it's kind of good to have a bit of that Loveless-esque drone.
Actress Hands sound like a band who have grown robust through the demands of touring, yet retain that wide-eyed wonder that sees Come the Summer Days glow opaque with poetic sentiment. There are few bands around that take more robust pearls and make them shimmer in grand pop style, but the Hands do it with terrific, ambiguous poise, Matt's vocals coming on like Kurt Cobain with something like Morrisey's penchant for flowers.
B-side Everyone's in Love is like Queens of the Stone Age playing Belle and Sebastian, trumpets emerging to coat electric guitar spurts in reams of subtlety, the results tempered and little short of ace.
