There seems to be no end to London's female talent. Just when we were getting used to the sounds of Lily Allen and then Kate Nash, Adele emerges to blow us away with a single about the city of London.

Adele's debut single, Hometown Glory, is melancholy and soulful. Her influences include names such as Etta James and Jill Scott but the expressive opening melody also has a hint of Sam Brown to it.

Her sound is unexpectedly mature for someone of her age - her voice is sultry and has a gravely texture to it whilst the lyrics are thoughtful and heartfelt. This talented songstress also plays the piano and acoustic guitar and in Hometown Glory she sings sentimentally about the city she grew up in.

Rather like Allen, Nash and that other London girl, Amy Winehouse, Adele's music is full of attitude. She's another teenager with a lot to say that is worth listening to.
