The Afternoons have been together nearly a decade, released four studio albums, and had enough positive reviews to charge an AA battery. Yet they're still pretty much unknown in the UK - unfairly so.
High Summer Lovers is the latest single off their most recent album, Sweet Action. It's a high impact summer feel-good song: up-tempo, bouncy and foot-tapping fun - Roxy Music and Teenage Fanclub driving on a coastal road, in a convertible with the top down. This single should be on a summer mix CD, along with Bryan Adams' Summer of 69, Mungo Jerry's In the Summertime, The Lovin' Spoonful's ‘Summer in the City' and (let's face it) most Beach Boys tracks.
So, turn on the stereo, pick High Summer Lovers, close your eyes (to block out the rainy, overcast skies), and drift away, imagining glorious sunshine. A summer 'must buy'.
