Many bands are tipped for greatness but very few live up to the hype that record companies and the music press feverishly generate in the hopes of breaking the next big thing.

One band currently receiving such over-excited plaudits are Agent Blue who are being heralded as part of the Kasabian-induced baggy revival. Crossbreed may well become the band's first single to break the top 40 following the relative success of previous offering, Something Else, but their sound is more Tears For Fears than Happy Mondays.

That said, they play with an energetic passion that begs to be witnessed live as wailing guitars and Nick Andrew's laddish vocals create a style and swagger that could just be their key to success. But the kind of expansive, triumphant, stadium rock they produce seems best suited to large arenas so they can only hope the current press predictions prove to be correct and they move into the major league soon as anticipated. Listening beyond the media fanfare, Agent Blue are about as baggy as lycra but destined for moderate, if not spectacular, success.
