Never Even Told Me Her Name kicks off with that same percussive boogie woogie piano that characterised early Supergrass singles and has garnered them a lot of comparisons - I daresay this outfit have listened to a fair amount of early Rolling Stones too.
The structure is bouncy verse versus frantic chorus, with stabs of screeching guitars and strained vocals, which develops to an old-fashioned rock'n'roll finale. Vocalist and pianoman Chris Wall has very good, unmannered phrasing, and one gets the sense that they would be terrific live - unfortunately the single's release coincides with the final date in a 25-night UK tour during October, so you may have to wait a little while for that pleasure.
