Akala is young, black and apparently very angry. It could be because of an inferiority complex towards his older and incredibly successful sister Ms Dynamite. Bulls#!t is no attempt to imitate big sis - but that is not necessarily a good thing.
His first major release seems to forget all the ingredients needed to make any major impact: There isn't a catchy hook, the content (every other word is "bullshit") has no place on the airwaves and the beat is misplaced. It smacks of bedroom production with a tinny sound emitted no matter what speakers you play it through, despite the likes of Kano and The Mitchell Brothers setting the benchmarks for UK hip-hop.
There is a valiant attempt at making a strong political statement with the government bearing the brunt of Akala's grievances. His knowledge of the tax system, however, is as misguided as the generation he may be trying to represent. With a smidgen of intelligence this track could've been written as a hard-hitting, eye-opening number. As it stands there is really only one word for it. Now that's bulls#!t.
