He's sitting pretty in the UK right now - having recently topped the album charts - but Akon is still a man preoccupied with weighty issues. First the moody Locked Up, and now this, another sombre affair.
That is, until you get to the chorus, with the helium vocals that broke Kanye West very much in evidence. You can file this in one of two categories - either as a skilful manipulation of a vocal, or an unbearably annoying squeak that reminds you of the dreaded Crazy Frog.
Unfortunately I belong firmly in the latter camp, but don't let that detract from Akon - at least his R'n'B has an alternative, darker edge to it, and for that at least he deserves a smidgeon of credit.
