On the evidence of Akon's last single and mega hit, Lonely, most could be
forgiven for believing the line: "Don't be shy girl go bananza, shake your
body like a belly dancer" to parade slim chances of being uttered by Mr
Lonely's monumentally lonely lips. And though you'd think belly dancers are hardly the
cream of the social pudding, it's a significant step up from being the
loneliest guy on the block. But what of the music?
Well, the chipmunks are notable by their absence: perhaps fickle lonely
boy Akon didn't feel drawn to dragging his feral friends out of despondency
as well as himself. Elsewhere, Latin rhythms prevail while the drums are
big and the bass bigger.
Those with an ear attuned to such shenanigans may nod their heads (or have their
bitch wiggle their bellies), but even they will notice Belly Dancer has
nothing on Lonely, and shouldn't prove half as successful. Those whose ears
are tuned to a different, altogether more musically sane station will be
disgusted. Avoid.
