Alex Parks' second album was a bitter disappointment for those of us who'd marked her out as a genuinely refreshing change to the rest of the reality TV pop treadmill. Stuffed full of moribund ballads, which didn't do her distinctive voice any favours at all, it was a pretty dreary experience.

Luckily, her record company have seen sense and released one of the strongest tracks as her next single. Honesty is an infectious, almost country-rock-ish, upbeat song that Sheryl Crow would be proud of. In fact, you could imagine Sharleen Spiteri singing it if she wasn't too busy farting around with Peter Kay. Crucially, Parks sounds like she's enjoying herself - why, she even smiles in the video - and it makes all the difference to the listener.

It may not be particularly radical, but it's a welcome sign that Parks won't have to go back to donning her clown outfit in her native Cornwall just yet.
