Exactly how special and incredibly important The Aliens are, we will have to leave for the album review of Astronomy For Dogs, due on these pages soon.
The second single from their debut is a mixture of several of '60s psychedelia's most seminal moments, including Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower in its main riff, Love Her Madly byThe Doors with its pounding and rhythmic organ, and even I Wanna Be Your Dog by The Stooges thanks to a relentless ringing of some kind of bell-like object, also reminiscent of The Beatles' Helter Skelter.
It may be obvious that these are students of the finest of the fine in rock music. Neither this nor their previous single, The Happy Song, give a true indication to the scope of the sprawling masterpiece that is their album - but buy Setting Sun all the same, as this is what used to constitute good pop music. There's plenty more to come from these three in 2007.
