The second single of their new album is a dark punk rock song that suggests there's no irony to the title Good Mourning. Alkaline Trio have a no bs approach to music and this shows on All on Black, with the crushing guitars and drums launching you into the track.
The pace slows down for the verses - a blessing that is absent in many songs from the same genre. The deep lyrics epitomise the fact that Alkaline Trio aren't afraid to release heavy content, where the likes of New Found Glory keep their darker side hidden in their albums. However I couldn't help but smirk at the line 'What's black and white? / What's read all over?'. Unfortunately it's not actually a joke and there's no punch line.
Major chart success won't come easily to the likes of Alkaline Trio, and it certainly won't come quickly - for all its merit, All on Black is only a mediocre track.
