You may not have heard the name Alterkicks before, but it's a fair bet you'll know the name soon enough. Their first two singles were released on the achingly hip Fierce Panda and Moshi Moshi labels respectively, they've been bigged up by both Zane Lowe and Dermot O'Leary and they're supporting the likes of Larrikin Love and The Automatic.
Now on B-Unique (home of Kaiser Chiefs and The Ordinary Boys of course), On A Holiday is guaranteed to have them stomping in the local indie disco, being a huge, foot-stomping tune so beloved of the aforementioned lyrics. Yet it's the lyrics that make this a cut above the average 'indie' sounding band - dark, mysterious and witty, it's impossible to make out what they're about but talk of wandering the rooftops with a loaded shotgun definitely gives the song a somewhat paranoid vibe.
They're from Liverpool so will no doubt be compared to The Coral and The Zutons, and it's true that there's a definite similarity here. Yet while it may not be the most original thing out there, On A Holiday serves notice that Alterkicks are a band well worth keeping your eye on.
