Ambulance LTD, the sound of the future. Or so it seemed, anyway. The mighty crash of Heavy Lifting: Something at once ethereal and noisy. That was New York's new music, fresh and now and special.
It's hard to say just what's wrong with Stay Where You Are, largely because it's so hard to characterise, even to notice. A mid-tempo minute-long intro, and then - well, not much. A gentle, lullaby refrain that, despite heavy, some might say tedious, repetition, remains entirely forgettable. Chimey guitars, reverb-laden production, expansive vocals.
It's not, in itself, a bad song: The album is out in March, and it might fit perfectly there, a lovely moody comedown. But it is a dull single, and, standing alone, rudely exposed, it has broken the dream. Ambulance LTD make pretty standard post-Coldplay rock - and there is a lot of that about.
