To paraphrase Arctic Monkeys, they're not from Amsterdam, they're from Liverpool - and by the sounds of Takin' On The World, they're putting something special in the River Mersey these days.
For this is impossibly bouncy, joyful pop from a five-piece who have been getting the Merseyside musical elite very excited recently. The late John Peel loved them, and they're often to be heard over the tannoy on match days at Anfield. Takin' On The World is irresistibly catchy and upbeat, with lead singer Ian Prowse bellowing out the words like his life depends upon it. It's all a bit 'Brit-pop', but that hasn't done Kaiser Chiefs any harm has it?
Even better is You Can't Trust The People, a hilarious riposte to the idea that 'the public know best' ("you can't trust the people with public opinion, like bringing back hangings and executions") which also doesn't let up for a minute while third track Time Of Your Life recalls the best moments of Happy Mondays. It won't be very long before a lot more people outside of Merseyside will be raving about Amsterdam.
