Former Shakira backing singer Lara McAllen covers Cathy Dennis dance classic Touch Me and it sounds floor-fillingly good. But then again, it's not hard when you don't have to write the melody or the lyrics.
With a squeaky kittenish vocal sounding like Dannii Minogue, the Guildford-born frontwoman of Angel City purrs and coos her way through her invitation to "hold me baby, drive me crazy, touch me, all night long" behind a distinctive nineties dance and synth beat. The 13-year-old song has barely been revamped, though the single includes four remixes including a club mix and an Ibiza anthem-type mix.
A second single for Angel City, Touch Me should do as well as their debut hit single Love Me Right did last year. But people who remember the Cathy Dennis version in 1991 may question the point of covering a song when it doesn't improve on the original.
