Archie Bronson Outfit - Dart For My Sweetheart (Domino)
UK release date: 27 February 2006
All the money in the world and your best friend. That's how much you would put on Archie Bronson Outfit being bred from the bosom of Detroit's garage rock scene. How wrong you'd be. Their brand of raw, visceral noise comes from the cider guzzling, pasty scoffing, green and pleasant land of England's West Country. The demonically titled Dart For My Sweetheart is the first single from the impending second album, Derdang Derdang.
Dart For My Sweetheart sounds like The Kills with a Win Butler (of Arcade Fire) impersonator on vocals. The rhythm is primeval and unforgiving, the guitars dirty, the lyrics and vocal delivery addictive. It's utterly compulsive, lo-fi garage rock with a pop twist.
B-sides In The Shadow Of Love (featuring Duke Spirit's Liela Moss on vocals) and Fire Horse exposes the depth Archie Bronson Outfit have to their songwriting. In The Shadow Of Love sees the distortion pedal thrown out the window, the tempo reduced to crawling pace, and warm melodies that will melt you from the inside out. Then Fire Horse reassembles that pedal for a feral guitar sound that would make Hotel from The Kills green with envy. Bring on the album.
