One of the main worries people had about Arctic Monkeys when they first appeared was what Alex Turner would find to write about now that he's in no position to talk about failing to pull women at nightclubs and trying to bunk out of taxis. The answer, it would seem, is to carry on as before, but broaden his worldview.
For Fluorescent Adolescent, Turner looks at an ageing 'woman about town' who's looking back at her life and wondering what happened. By turns filthy ("is that a meccadobber or a betting pencil") and sad, it also contributes one of the catchiest choruses of the year in "oh the boy's a slag, the best you ever had" and sounds tailor-made for the festival season.
Although possibly not the best track on Favourite Worst Nightmare, it's certainly the most commercial and will no doubt be pretty much ubiquitious over the summer months. The journey to world domination continues, then.
