Ariel-X - Mute

buy music
Ariel-X are four young lads with punk hairdos, plenty of make-up and a taste for clothes bought in the shops in Camden Market that sell glow-in-the-dark nipple rings. They also happen to have impressed readers of Kerrang! so much the video for Mute has just been voted to feature on the magazine's own TV channel.

All very promising and it's easy to hear why: Mute is a Paul Corkett (The Cure, Placebo) produced slab of MTV2-friendly alt-rock, with some mosh-tastic heavy riffs alternated with quieter, brooding moments. Apparently it's about the vacuousness of Pop Idol contestants, which is a fair, if rather overused, target.

With a tour supporting Rachel Stamp imminent it looks like Ariel-X are pushing all the right buttons and hordes of black-clad teenage fans look sure to follow.
