In 1992, Ash, three cheeky school kids from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, released Jack Names The Planets. Commercially it failed to set the world alight, but it made a few people sit up and take notice.

Ten years later, after considerably more than a handful of successful hits, worldwide tours and the addition of guitarist Charlotte Hatherly, the single is re-released, their old label cashing in on the recent release of their 'best of' album.

This is pure pleasure. The bubblegum punk guitars which bombinate throughout mixed with Tim Wheeler's delightfully angelic voice creates that cheeky little scamp with a heart of gold image, which has stuck ever since. Every other Ash single since has a chunk of this song in it. Jack Names The Planets started it all and deserves to be commemorated.
