Picking up roughly where Aaliyah left off with contemporary R&B, Ashanti's US smash Foolish comes to these shores very much as the record that could make her reputation. Will she be able to take on the mantle of the princess of R&B?

She certainly has the looks and her songs largely have the vibe, as her appearance on Ja Rule's Always On Time showed. But Foolish is something of a one-trick horse, a little too repetitive rather than innovative, even if it does manage to be an aural representation of being patted.

But, like so many divas in the making, this one does ultimately little more than sing someone else's words. It'd be interesting to hear what she feels in a song, rather than what her collection of writers think will sell.
