A bongo here, an outlandish synth sound there and Ashton Lane's debut single Yesterday's Too Late shows that anything Sheryl Crow can do, a five-piece from Glasgow can just about do too.
In truth this single sounds somehow more Australian than Scottish, and while there is a pleasing attention to melody and song structure, it's all just a bit too woozy for dancing potential and not stripped down enough to be atmospheric.
Fans of laid-back melodious pop, however, could do worse than give this a spin - the debut album's full of more of the same.
