The Asteroids Galaxy Tour - The Sun Ain't Shining No More (Small Giants)
UK release date: 15 September 2008
One year. That's how lead singer Mette Lindberg and songwriter Lars Iversen have been playing together as Asteroids Galaxy Tour. After hitting the scene with a debut gig supporting some R&B singer named Amy Winehouse, the band has since been picked up by legendary managers David Enthoven and Tim Clark and are slated to release thier first album in early 2009. In other words, the duo seems to be hitting it off okay.
They haven't cracked the big time just yet - Lindberg and Iversen write their tunes in a one-bedroom apartment in Copenhagen and record in a dark, dingy basement that doubles as an underground air-raid shelter - but that might change thanks to first single The Sun Ain't Shining No More. An infectious, hip-shaking groove worthy of the B-52s, it finds Lindberg purring playfully over crisp funk-guitar lines and disco-inflected percussion.
The surface-level sheen, however, hides darker musical elements: "for a while I'm shining, but later I'm crying", Lindberg laments forebodingly at one point, as minor-key strings and haunting harmonies mingle mischievously with the radio-ready melody. It's a delicious slice of dance-pop, delivered with spunk and confidence, and one can only imagine what AGT will sound like after more than 12 months on the circuit...
