Audio Bullys feat Nancy Sinatra - Shot You Down (Source)
UK release date: 23 May 2005
Cheeky London twosome the Audio Bulllys are back with a cracking new
single that stamps their trademark dub beats and psychedelic loops all over
Nancy Sinatra singing Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down). It sounds
crazy but it works.
Shot You Down opens with a blast of beats which stop suddenly with a
gunshot to make way for Sinatra's atmospheric vocal. Then the beats kick in
again and your feet start twitching. The whole effect is a whirlwind of
gorgeous sounds that will be shaking up the coolest dancefloors across the
country. This is aural pleasure at itıs most stimulating as there's plenty
to listen to - thumping beats and piercing electronica contrasting fiercely
yet effectively with the gentleness of the original song. It's similar to
what Primal Scream tried to do with Kate Moss on Some Velvet Morning but a whole lot more fun.
Of course, the Audio Bullys are no stranger to sampling. Sleevenotes for
their debut album Ego War credit a vast range of samples from Elvis Costello
to Joe Cocker. Such eclectic listening makes for creative music making and
Shot You Down is a prime example of how creative the Audio Bullys are with
their music. If this tune canıt elevate them to the profile they deserve then
nothing will.
