Automato - Walk Into The Light

The first hip-hop band on Dim Mak records (The Kills, The Von Bondies, Soledad Brothers) release their debut single and Walk Into The Light is a right box of tricks.

Automato effortlessly blend conventional hip-hop with their own unique take on the genre, creating original, intelligent music. The melodies are defined, the rhythm is off-kilter and syncopated, and the rap is intelligent. And this is all tied up with DFA's excellent production.

However, Automato's admirable creativity could also be their downfall. It's not easy to listen to - it isn't even that likeable at first. But the inventiveness of Walk Into The Light demands respect: give it this and the track quickly grows on its listener. It won't get into the charts, but since when have they been a reliable reflection of decent music? Automato are doing something good for hip-hop.
