Canada can legitimately be charged for many crimes against music, Celine Dion and Bryan Adams are exhibits A and B but their defence could be built around little Avril Lavigne. I'm being serious here - this is not a sick joke, I like her and her music isn't half bad.
Nobody's Home is a far cry from Complicated that introduced Miss Lavigne to the world as, well a grumpy little girl. There isn't really anything all that complicated about the life of a teenage 'prodigy'. However this latest episode is musically very good, with the soft(ish) guitars playing to Avril's vocal strengths.
Nobody's Home shows the range of Avril Lavigne's ability, from the uplifting to the thought-inducing. Maybe it is music aimed at a generation of wannabe rebels, but it works. This track is just one of the reasons why I reckon Under My Skin is one of the best albums of 2004.
