A lot's changed for Avril Lavigne since we last heard from her nearly three years ago.
The newly hitched Canadian pop-rocker's seemingly shed her 'sk8er boi' skin in favour of a more adult look, with new song Keep Holding On glorifying the brighter outlook in her new-found lyrical perspective. Written for the upcoming Eragon motion picture, Keep Holding On is a defiant tale of standing up tall and surviving against the odds.
Underpinned by a theme of hope and belief, it's an overblown power ballad that's sure to appease the masses, as well as do a fine job of slowly weaning Avril back into our lives in time for album number three early next year. Lines like "you're not alone, together we stand" have replaced the faux angst scribblings of previous outing Under My Skin, adding a far more accessible feel to Lavigne's music, and whilst it's a fair way off toppling her finest moments, it's still a more than acceptable return from someone that's been away for a just a little too long now.
