When Damon Gough first started releasing records, they were in the form of ultra-rare EPs that sold out instantly and became huge collectors editions just months later. Now he's at it again, releasing this single so rare that we couldn't even find a review copy - luckily, it's currently being streamed through the be-hatted one's official website.
Gough's never made any secret of his obsession with Bruce Springsteen, so perhaps it's no surprise that this comeback single nods to the Boss with a play on words on one of his most famous songs. It's a straight-ahead rock song, a far cry from the Boy's acoustic beginnings, but sounds suitably epic with a great piano line running through the song. The lyrics are typically quirky, harking back to the '70s with mentions of the Silver Jubilee, hosepipe bans, and Jilted John.
Personally, this reviewer prefers Gough at his more introspective, but this still makes a good taster for the forthcoming album - if you can find it, that is.
