Can it really be eight years that Basement Jaxx have been releasing singles?
Felix and Simon have wooed our heads and moved our feet with a diverse range of
top tunes, from the punk disco classic Where's Your Head At to the pure dance
floor rush of Red Alert.
Oh My Gosh is the new single from the forthcoming The Singles. It finds the
boys in slinky disco mode: The baseline is short smart and gets the groove on; a dry acoustic guitar strums. The vocal, from guest rapper Vula Malinga, is like
a female Streets, feisty and fun. A neat reverse of the sexism prevalent in
main stream R'n'B - A tale of a girl marking a guy out ten.
The Kneedeep Club Mix is your average pointless extension, The Bugz in The
Attic remix adds a little two step into the equation and the two dub mixes are
great: The Old Skool Dub is all handclaps, sped up vocal cut ups and deep deep
buzzing synth base; Oh My Dub is an avalanche of analogue bleeps and latino
shuffle the vocals twisted and bent like an acid house classic. Both are pure
hands in the air heaven.
