BC Camplight - Blood And Peanut Butter (One Little Indian)
UK release date: 6 March 2006
He may look like a Jewish undertaker but BC Camplight, aka Brian Christinzio, has a voice as sweet as Todd Rundgren and an inventive songwriting aptitude that Rundgren (one of his musical heroes) would have been proud of too. If you still have any doubts just listen to this catchy little single, taken from his debut album released last year, Hide, Run Away.
Drenched in synthesiser, the up tempo song tells the story of a guy who appears to be stalking a young lady he's taken a fancy to. "Answer the phone and tell me you're all alone," sings Christinzio, only for Cynthia G. Mason (playing the role of the girl) to shoot down his quest with "I don't even know your name".
It is also worth mentioning the second song featured on this single release, Parapaleejo. With a definite nod to the great, and sadly missed, Jellyfish, it is a quirky slice of bubblegum pop which is guaranteed to have you tapping your feet. In this journalist's opinion way too good to be relegated to playing second fiddle on a single.
