Often compared to Karen O, Jamina Pearl's band sound nothing like the
Yeah Yeah Yeahs. They do, however, have the sort of wide eyed
enthusiasm that is hundred times more suited to the namesake.
Like the bottled essence of the first day of the school summer holidays, Be Your
Own Pet are all puking, kit battering, joyous noiseniks. Adventure might be more restrained than, say, Damn Damn Leash, but
it still runs at a giddy, retalin-dosed pace. Like all their songs, the
underlying message is 'Everything is fucking ace. And new'.
Elsewhere, Ouch and We Will Vacation... are like Sebadoh played by
S Club Juniors. Are they likely to have the same high octane
demeanour by the time they reach their twenties? Probably not. Is it the
most infectious, fearless, life affirming racket you'll hear all year?
Yeah. Yeah. And Yeah.
