Billed as "an innovative fusion of reggae, rock, punk and soul," Bedouin Sounclash have been making a name for themselves supporting The Ordinary Boys and are about to tour with Gogol Bordello. You choose a name like Bedouin Soundclash, you have to live up to it. This doesn't.

Trailing the March 2007 release of their third album, Street Gospels, 12:59 Lullaby is a sweet ballad which, if pushed, you might identify as reggae-influenced. Lead vocalist Jay Malinowski has a small voice but a warm timbre, which he uses adroitly. But likeable as he sounds, the song is really a slightly classier version of the sticky sweet confections being turned out by James Blunt et al.

I don't know what happened to the rock, punk and soul, but their cover of the reggae classic One Way is a nice piece of lovers' rock. They then slip into dub lite for Jeb Rand Is Sailin' On. Andy Weatherall was doing the same sort of echoey dance sound a decade ago, and making a much better job of it. All in all, disappointing given the reputation they've developed.
