Trained in the classical traditions of both East and West, a pupil of the Ravi Shankar School for Music with a personal obsession with European folk, progressive pop and electronica, and the face of London's notorious KashPoint nightclub, Bishi certainly cuts a fascinating figure in the modern pop world.
Years of club DJing, solo shows, including at appearance at Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown, and a collaboration with London's avant-garde luminaries on an electronic project have led to the recording of a first LP, and this single jumps from it in a particularly sultry manner.
Never Seen Your Face sees Bishi merging her passions into a slice of funkadelica that takes "world music" by the hand and makes it dance with the devil, huge bass licks and eastern strings pulsing around her indie princess vocals to make an ace slab of whirling disco to tune your pulse to other planets. If this is what they call New Psychedelia, then count me in at the front.
