Black Eyed Peas - Don't Phunk With My Heart (Polydor)
UK release date: 16 May 2005
Will.I.Am, Apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie are not just a strange collection of letters randomly spread out, but are in fact the Black Eyed Peas, who are back following the phenomenon that was Elephunk. Boasting anthems like Where Is The Love? and Hey Mama, the follow up has been greatly anticipated, more so since Don't Phunk With My Heart hit the airwaves and music video channels.
Their latest single is pretty special, with an initial 15 seconds of confusion in the intro which gives nothing away. That is until Fergie drops her now trademark vocals which lead into four minutes of summery bliss with a hip-hop twist. The raps are clean, in both senses of the word, despite being innuendo laden, and there's a pinch of comedy in there too.
If Don't Phunk With My Heart is anything to go by then Monkey Business will be every bit as successful as Elephunk - and if not it certainly should be. Even the video for this has comedy and melodrama, and with Fergie getting more attractive by the song there's not a lot else this reviewer needs from a single.
