The Pixies main man is back again and this time he's bringing with him Matt Tong of Bloc Party and The Infadels. The result is three very different remixes of yet another song that was bonkers in the first place as Black Francis retells the classic legend of Thesus's journey from Athens to his father in a way that only he can.
The first version, remixed by recent tour collaborator Charles Normal, verges on rap - so funked-up that it's almost diametrically opposed to the dancey, synth-soaked electronica served up next by The Infadels. Matt Tong brings these juxtapositions back together, building a bridge between them in the form of fractured repetitive beats that give the song and its form a new dimension.
Taken from the recent album Svn Fngrs, The Seus does what Black Francis always does: proves that he's as relevant and versatile as he's ever been. Pixies may or may not be back to stay but with or without them, he's got more than enough talent to go round.
