Preceding the re-release of their last album (the somewhat patchy Magic Potion) comes one of the highlights of that collection.
If you're familiar with The Black Keys, then you'll know that they trade in some of the finest blues rock riffs around. If you're not already familiar with The Black Keys, let us tell you that if Led Zeppelin were stripped down to a two piece then this is exactly what they would sound like.
Dan Auerbach's riffs are, as usual, perfect. Perhaps not as frantic as on earlier tracks such as Set You Free, but there's little doubt that when it comes to blues riffs the man certainly knows his Green Onions. Similarly Auerbach's voice is straight from the school of tobacco and whiskey (probably the same one Mark Lanegan went to), so he infuses Just Got To Be with something like heart and soul.
This being a double A side means that you get a second dose of The Black Keys doing what they do best. Black Door finds the Zeppelin comparisons even more relevant, with his voice darting up the registers to find the stairway that Robert Plant skips up so often. Yet another killer riff, and some pounding drums courtesy of Patrick Carney make Black Door an irresistible prospect. A great single then, just beware of that album.
