Black Lips are a four-piece from Atlanta. This single, taken from their recently released debut, Good Bad Not Evil, shows them in a more musically wistful light as an unrelenting drum machine provides the backdrop for the same two chords to be hypnotically repeated throughout the song. Simple.

The singer sounds like he wants to front The Hives, and the unimaginative lyrics fail to engage. But by virtue of an annoyingly simple vocal melody, this song will very quickly embed itself in your head.

But there is something about this song that is a bit sexy, and that may well be the snotty, couldn't-give-a-fuck delivery of the refrain "I came/I saw/I conquered all". Veni Vedi Vici is a very simple song. We're all familiar with the 'less is more' ideology that often comes up trumps, but the bottom line is this sounds amateurish and a bit bad.
